56 layers, 1,050 m/min: why grams per pallet matter more than price per kilo.

At an industry forum in Nanjing, Li Yubin, chairman of Ningbo Hongyan Packing Materials Co., Ltd., described a practical answer to a familiar stretch-film question: how can a film use less material without giving up load security?

Layer count is not the point.

Stretch film is often bought by the kilogram. That makes it easy to compare prices, but it can hide the operating result: how many grams are used per pallet, whether the wrapper runs continuously, and whether the load remains secure through handling and transport.

HONGYAN's 56-layer nano cast platform runs at up to 1,050 metres per minute. The platform is designed to let a film construction assign different jobs across multiple layers instead of requiring one layer to provide every property at once.

What multilayer construction is meant to solve.

More layers alone do not prove performance. The useful question is whether the film can balance the properties that often compete with one another: puncture resistance, cling, stiffness, clarity and elastic recovery. The correct evaluation is always application-specific, using the same load profile, wrapping equipment and transport conditions.

For machine wrapping, HONGYAN's stretch-film range covers 6–70 μm. Selected constructions may be evaluated at 300–600% pre-stretch, depending on the film and machine configuration.

The honest boundary: thinner is not automatically better.

Multilayer cast film depends on repeatable process control, precise equipment and stable material selection. It is usually best evaluated on repeatable pallet profiles and a defined wrapper set-up. For small, constantly changing jobs, the performance and cost case must be tested—not assumed.

That is why we recommend recording three measures in a trial: film grams per pallet, machine behaviour and load stability. A lower gauge is only useful when those three results move in the right direction together.

Public company facts.

In its October 2026 company publication, HONGYAN reported 36 core patents, participation in five industry standards, a Ningbo Academician Workstation and a provincial high-tech R&D centre. The company also reports five production bases in China, a 40,000 m² Ningbo facility, and exports to more than 30 countries and regions.
